Drive Movie Review: Following His Ferocious Antagonist Role In Akhanda 2, Aadhi Pinisetty Returns To The Limelight As The Main Lead In Drive, A Cyber-Themed Revenge Thriller That Has Hit The Theatres Today. Paperwise, The Movie Suggests The Interesting Confrontation Of Power, Politics, And Technology. On Cinema Screen, Though, It Fails To Put That Promise Into A Great On-Screen Adventure.

Plus Points

Drive Provides Occasional Time Of Engagement. Aadhi Pinisetty Is A Very Earnest Actor, And The Script Seldom Allows The Actor To Soar. There Are A Couple Of Conversations Between Jayadev And The Unknown Hacker That Create Momentary Tension, But They Are Too Small To Cause Any Actual Excitement.

The Appearance Of Satyadev In The Last Stretch Is More Striking, As It Has More Impact Than Much Of The Prior Runtime And Provides A Hint On The Possibility Of The Continuation. The Film Is Occasionally Polished Visually, With The Help Of Impressive Settings And Clean And Composed Cinematography By Abinandhan Ramanujam.

Minus Points

Although The Movie Has Set Itself As High Stakes Revenge Thriller, It Never Creates Any Real Suspense. The Story Has A Cliche Plot, And The Reasons Why The Hacker Does It Are Not Well Elucidated. Ironically, The Antagonist Is Depicted As A Very Competent Person, But He Is Restrained Through The Script On Numerous Occasions, Robbing A Would Heavy Battle Of Wits Of Urgency.

The Character Of Madonna Sebastian Does Not Provide A Lot Of Narrative. Her Actions Is Mostly Confined To Responding To Events, And She Is Always Posing Self-Explanatory Questions In Dramatic Moments, A Fact Which Inadvertently Weakens The Tense Moments.

Unrealistic Twists In The Plot Become Commonplace, And Even When Ignored, The Film Lacks The Plot Power That Can Keep The Viewer Entertained.

Technical Breakdown

As Director And Author, Jenuse Mohamed Has A Hard Time Keeping Things Moving, Feeling Emotions. The Screenplay Is Two-Dimensional, With Very Few Conflicts And Stakes Escalations. The Cinematography Of Abinandhan Ramanujam Is Still The Best Technical Aspect Of The Movie, Whereas The Background Music Composed By Osho Venkat Does Not Suit The Film’s Atmosphere And Creates Minimal Impression. Prawin Pudi, As The Editor Tries To Ensure That The Movie Follows A Logical Sequence, But The Second Half Drags The Movie. The Total Production Values Are Of The Average Kind.

Final Words

Ultimately, Drive Turns Out To Be A Passive And Mediocre Revenge Movie That Fails To Find Its Groove. Poor Writing And Less Than Impressive Performance Thins Out A Notion That Could Have Been So Much More. Aadhi Pinisetty Is Left With A Part That Could Have Used A Lot More Work. Had There Been A Keener Storytelling And Stronger Direction, It Would Have Made A Great Cyber Thriller. At Its Current State, Drive Is A Pass.

Final Rating: 2/5
